Artist Statement

Shaped by the visual poetry of Heinz Cibulka and the language of the American New Color Photography movement, Woschitz pursues traces of time and image worlds that render the transient and often overlooked visible—resulting in works that unfold a subtle reflection on moments, places, human traces, and the fine shifts of time. Within series and multi-part tableaux, individual images interweave into visual narratives that invite viewers to activate their own perceptions and memories. Alongside his photographic work, Woschitz has long been engaged in text-based practices, which he uses as a form of critical self-inquiry and reflection on the world. “Harald Woschitz demonstrates in his work that what is at stake is the core of the photographic—a writing of light. He succeeds in revealing photography’s profound impact, one that no longer corresponds to an ostensibly straightforward reality.” (Carl Aigner, 2012) “The fabric of reality appears as a bundle of individual perceptual effects. Woschitz’s works counter the automatism of seeing by granting us time to look.” (Wolfgang Giegler, 2022)
